''Walking Hand-in-Hand'' Community Cancer Support Services for Cancer Patients and Caregivers
Launching the "Walking Hand-in-Hand" Community Cancer Support Services for Cancer Patients and Caregivers
The tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po has drew widespread public concern. Amidst this sudden community crisis, the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society (HKACS) is deeply aware that the victims already struggling with cancer, including patients and their caregivers, who are physically and emotionally exhausted from their long fight, are among those most in need of urgent and sustained support.
This fire has not only caused substantial loss of homes and property for the affected residents but has also caused a deep and lasting psychological impact on the entire community, particularly on cancer patients and their caregivers. Even those not directly affected may experience intense fear, anxiety, and helplessness due to the disturbing news footage in recent days. For families who have lost their homes or, even worse, lost loved ones, their trauma is inexpressible and requires prompt professional intervention.
HKACS would like to express our deepest gratitude to the "Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation" for its generous and immediate response to the community's needs. This donation has allowed us to promptly launch the three-year "Walking Hand-in-Hand" Community Cancer Support Services for Cancer Patients and Caregivers, providing urgent and comprehensive assistance to affected cancer patients and their families. The service scope covers:
* Case management and continuous follow-up
* Emotional support and grief counselling
* Community recovery and assistance with rebuilding lives
* Practical coordination and linkage of community resources
* Crisis intervention and long-term companionship
We always upheld the service philosophy of being "patient-centred and family-supportive." We understand that affected families are simultaneously facing the multiple burdens of a life-threatening illness, immense trauma, bereavement, and the disruption of their daily lives. Therefore, we are committed to providing this long-term and systematic professional support service to help them resume a stable routine of life as quickly as possible.
We appeal to the public to focus on these most vulnerable community members and to walk hand-in-hand with the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society, bringing them sustained support and hope.
